Rare Civil War era stamp from the confederacy; this is a CSA #11 Keatinge and Ball designed blue Jefferson Davis Stamp. On February 4, 1861 the first 6 seceded states joined together to form the central government of the Confederate States of America with Jefferson Davis as the provisional president and Montgomery, Alabama as the capital city. The capital would later move to Richmond after the secession of Virginia. The actual war began on April 12, 1861 with the bombardment of Fort Sumter. The end of the war is generally accepted as April 9 1865 when General Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House. However, the actual end of the Confederacy is a blurred date (a CSA "PAID" cover from Seguin, Texas has the date June 4, 1865.

Rare Civil War era, Wesley Richards Confederate Cavalry Cabine

Rare Civil War era, Wesley Richards Confederate Cavalry Cabine; great patina. The Wesley Richards was adopted as the standard for the British Cavalry in 1861 and a favorite of the Confederate Cavalry because of its reliability and knockdown power. For the Southern troops, Sharp's Rifles were in short supply and the Union blockade was difficult to circumvent. The Westley Richards Co was located in Birmingham, England. This particular carbine was owned by descendants of a Civil War veteran until the 1970's when the gun was sold at the Tom Keilman auction in Pfluggerville, Texas and identifed as a great example of a Civil War Carbine by gun expert, Tom Keilman.
